KPMG, a multinational professional services firm, has broken the Guinness World Records title for the most views on a cloud technology learning video on YouTube in 24 hours.
From noon on November 17 until noon November 18, 2,964 people watched the lesson video as part of KPMG’s ‘Cloud Curious Challenge’. Viewers included KPMG employees from countries around the globe, such as the US, Barbados, the Netherlands, Spain, and more.
Schools around the UK were also part of the record attempt, with 10,490 pupils from secondary schools in areas of low social mobility getting involved, including Bradford, Oldham, and Stoke-on-Trent.
For every person that took part in the attempt, KPMG is donating £1 to the company’s new charity partner, Marie Curie, making for a total donation of £13,454.
This world record, which was achieved in partnership with Google Cloud, isn’t KPMG’s first. In 2020, the firm broke the Guinness World Records title for the most people taking part in an online computer programming lesson within 24 hours, raising funds for the firm’s then charity partner the NSPCC.
Lisa Heneghan, chief digital officer at KPMG UK, commented: “We are incredibly proud of this new Guinness World Records title and the amount of money raised for Marie Curie, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.
“The cloud skills gap is a real problem that has the potential to stunt digital transformation and business growth in the future. Technology is ever more important to the way that we work and live and the corresponding tech skills are essential for our future working lives.”
According to a study by 451 Research, 90% of IT decision makers say that their businesses are lacking cloud skills, and our growing dependence on digital technologies will only serve to widen this talent gap.
KPMG designed this record attempt to highlight this issue and give everyone in the firm, as well as school children, the chance to learn more about cloud technology and how it connects people and businesses.
